I was born in Italy in 1992 and I am currently based in the Netherlands, where I work as an Assistant Professor of Public International Law at Utrecht University.
In June 2021, I was awarded my PhD in international law (summa cum laude, avec félicitations du jury) from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. My doctoral thesis, which was supervised by Professor Andrew Clapham, was titled "In the hands of the rebels: detention by armed groups at the limits of international law". I plan to publish it soon as a monograph. As an early career researcher, I have already accomplished important milestones. My research has appeared or is forthcoming on the Journal of International Criminal Justice, the European Journal of Risk Regulation, the International and Comparative Law Quarterly, International Legal Materials, edited volumes, as well as widely read blogs. You can consult the list of my publications here. I also have extensive teaching experience and have studied and worked in Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States, and Palestine. I see international law as a useful tool for the improvement of our society and I have always strived to put a human and practical component at the heart of my academic work. I am driven by the objective of proposing solutions to contemporary issues that are both realistic and aimed at the fullest protection of vulnerable individuals, including civilians caught in the midst of armed conflicts and victims of human rights violations. I speak Italian, English and French, and I am learning German. |
